American urban brand, popularised by hip-hop culture, Akademiks make casual streetwear for style-conscious men, women, boys and girls.
Founded in 2001 by two brothers, Donwan and Emmett Harrell, the label gained attention when Brooklyn rapper Fabolous began referencing Akademiks in his lyrics, in addition to wearing their clothes.
The brand’s continued appeal to the major players in the hip-hop scene and a series of controversial advertising campaigns has led to global expansion. Fans of the label include Dizzee Rascal and 50 Cent which has added to the cult appeal in the hip-hop and streetwear market.
